Álvaro Trabanco presents a selection of photographs from the last five years, gelatin silver prints, selenium-toned by the artist. Some of these prints were exhibited in Istanbul in 2024 at an event organized with the Cervantes Institute: a visual and personal investigation into the Gallipoli peninsula, site of the battle of the First World War. His work in the area spanned several years, with visits lasting several months, during which he was able to appreciate the changing nature of a predominantly agricultural territory, which remains isolated from the pace of urban and industrial development thanks to its historical protection. In this place, Trabanco creates a narrative about the difficulty photography faces when capturing past events, now hidden by the passage of time, and how these events transform the landscape. The other part of the selection selected consists of photographs with a similar visual structure from diverse locations, demonstrating the artist’s desire to construct a coherent and creative visual universe regardless of the spatial-temporal context.
Trabanco returns to exhibit in his native Asturias at the Arancha Osoro Gallery, this time with a completely analog work in which the author’s mark can be appreciated in the work shown.
